Your clipboard stays
your business.
Private by architecture,
not by a promise.
The useful parts of Pastry work without an identity, a sync account, or a server-side copy of your history.
One local database
Clipboard history lives in Pastry’s application-support folder on your Mac.
No cloud history
The app has no Pastry account, sync service, remote search index, or analytics feed.
Refusal before storage
Concealed clips and ignored applications are dropped before they become history.
Deletion stays yours
You control retention, can remove individual clips, or erase the library in the app.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the Pastry desktop application for macOS and this website. Pastry is designed as a local utility: it does not require an account and does not send your clipboard history to Pastry or Monospace®.
The application necessarily reads changes to the macOS pasteboard while monitoring is enabled. That access is used to classify, preview, search, transform, and paste your clips on the Mac where Pastry is installed.
What Pastry stores
Clips you copy are stored in a local SQLite database inside Pastry’s application-support folder. Depending on the clip, a record can include its content, type, source application, creation time, tags, pinboard membership, and the search text Pastry derives locally.
Images and files can require local companion data so the app can preview and paste them correctly. Screenshot text recognition and dominant-color extraction also happen on your Mac. Pastry does not upload these assets for processing.
What Pastry refuses to remember
Pastry drops pasteboard contents marked concealed or transient by their source application. Password managers, banking applications, and two-factor authentication tools are included in the default ignore rules, and you can add or remove applications from that list.
A local classifier also looks for card numbers that pass a Luhn check, JSON Web Tokens, known API-key shapes, and high-entropy tokens. Suspected secrets are redacted in the drawer and kept on a short retention path. No automatic detector is perfect, so monitoring can be paused at any time and pinboards can be configured as no-history contexts.
What leaves your Mac
Clipboard history, previews, search queries, tags, pinboards, and Paste Stack contents are not sent to us. The app has no cloud clipboard service and no analytics endpoint.
License activation and periodic validation use Polar. Those requests can include the license key, a generated machine identifier, an activation identifier, and the purchase email associated with the license; they never include clipboard history. Update checks contact Pastry’s release endpoint to compare versions and retrieve signed updates.
Links you choose to open and files you choose to use are handled by macOS and the destination applications you select.
This website
getpastry.app is a static site hosted by Vercel. Like any web host, Vercel handles the technical details of each request, such as your IP address and browser, to deliver pages and protect the service.
The site uses Vercel Web Analytics and Speed Insights to count visits and measure how quickly pages load. They set no cookies and do not follow you across other sites. A visit is recognized only by a hash of the request that Vercel discards after 24 hours, and what we see is aggregated: pages, referrers, approximate location, browser, operating system, and device type.
We also count a few clicks: download buttons (with which Mac build), checkout and license-portal links, the contact form’s email draft (with the topic you picked), and the send-to-your-Mac button on phones. These events record which button was used, never what you typed.
Downloads are served by GitHub, and purchases and license management happen on Polar, each under its own privacy policy. The contact form sends nothing to this website; it opens a draft in your own mail app.
Retention, export, and deletion
You choose how long ordinary history remains available. A local background sweep removes expired items. Pinned items remain until you unpin or delete them; sensitive items use their shorter privacy retention regardless of the ordinary history setting.
Pastry can export a versioned .pastry-backup bundle containing your clips, pinboards, tags, and Paste Stack for transfer to another Mac. The exported file is created where you choose and is then under your control. The app also provides controls to delete individual items or remove the local library.
System permissions and screen sharing
Automatic insertion is optional and requires macOS Accessibility access. If you leave it off, Pastry can still place the selected clip on the clipboard without that permission. Screenshot capture only watches the location macOS is configured to use when the feature is enabled.
The “Hide from screen share” setting asks macOS to exclude the Pastry drawer from screen recordings and shared displays. This protects the drawer itself; it cannot control how other applications display content after you paste it.
Changes to this policy
When Pastry’s data handling changes, this page will change with it. Material product changes also appear in the changelog so the policy does not become the only place an important behavior is disclosed.
This version of the policy is effective 17 September 2026. It adds the website section; the app’s data handling is unchanged since 27 August 2026.
