Screen measurement

Real edges.
Useful numbers.

A crosshair finds the nearest visual boundaries under your pointer, so you can measure an element or the space between two without saving a screenshot.

Follow the edges.
Leave with the numbers.

Measure is an opt-in tool in Settings. Once enabled, it works over the interface already on screen and keeps multiple readings in one pass.

01

Enable and invoke

Turn on Measurement Tool in Pastry settings, then use its configurable global shortcut wherever the layout you need to inspect is visible.

⌘ ⇧ M
02

Point or drag

Hover to read the nearest element or gap. Drag slightly wide around an element and the finished measurement snaps inward to its detected edges.

DRAG
03

Complete the set

Keep adding readings, then press Return. Pastry copies the collected dimensions together as one structured JSON clip.

The boundary

Measurements, without the image file.

The tool uses what is already visible to locate edges, but the thing it leaves behind is a compact set of dimensions. Your desktop does not become a folder of disposable reference screenshots.

Useful when
01

Checking spacing against a design while implementing it

02

Comparing two components in different applications

03

Sending a reproducible set of dimensions to a teammate

It takes about ninety seconds to install and one afternoon to stop being able to work without it.
